CR Spring Blog

Great to Be Here

Hi everyone. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. I’m Karen, and I’m the third member of the CR “planning committee”. I write the newsletters, run the book trade, and answer questions from people who send us email. You can reach me at karen at crspring.com if you want to know more about CR. (I recently moved and changed my email address, so if you have my old verizon email, it’s no longer working.)

One question I’ve been asked a couple of times is, “is Kansas City in Kansas or Missouri?” Since I’ve never been to Kansas City, I had to look that one up online. The state line between Kansas and Missouri runs through the middle of Kansas City, but our hotel (and the airport) are on the Missouri side. If you’d like to learn more about Kansas City, there’s a great web site at http://www.visitkc.com that has a lot of helpful maps and another site at http://www.experiencekc.com that highlights some of the great attractions in the area. I’m looking forward to visiting the city for the first time in March!

The Fearless Leader

I don’t know about fearless since there are times I can’t sleep for worrying about the attendance at CR or whether people will like our ideas.

When Margie bowed out of doing CR due to family problems, I stepped forward with Cybil, Karen, Nils and the support of everyone who wanted to keep CR going but didn’t want to do the work. It’s been a learning experience for all of us. It’s also frustrating, incredibly rewarding, and a lot of hard work to keep everything together. My hat is off to Margie and all the friends who helped her get started.

That said, the reason I wanted to keep CR going is because it fills a need that no other conference can fill. RWA is a blast because I get to interact with friends and author friends. It’s just too hectic and too big and your chances of seeing people are sporadic at best. CR allows me to talk about romance with a group of friends in an informal way.

Yes, I consider everyone I’ve met through CR as a friend. I love the chance to just talk endlessly with others enjoying good food and company.

We hope you will consider joining us in Kansas City next year. We’ve had some new ideas of ways to keep things moving that we will try.

Author Liaison Signing In…

For all those who don’t know me my name is Cybil Solyn and I am the CR Author Liaison this year. I am sending a shout out to anyone who knows authors who are close to Kansas City. While at RWA National in Atlanta Leanne (our fearless leader) and I did a great job meeting authors interested in Kansas City CR. Among them were Cherry Adair, Julie Garwood, and Carla Cassidy. But I am always looking for names. So if you know of any authors in the area please email me, csolyn@rakehell.com.

Upcoming… a list of all authors who have expressed interest!

Introduction: Nils Devine

Hi! This is Nils, the web developer trying to get things to work around here, and the designer responsible for all this violet-eggplant and orchid madness. Broken links, busted forms, I’m the one responsible. Feel free to contact me with any feedback at ndevine@rakehell.com
